"I think we got it now."

Graeme said nothing but stared at the swirling whirlpool of the portal.

"You're not much of a talker, Graeme," Cora commented.

Graeme was still silent.

"Then let's try it!!"

Cora was more than eager to turn on the portal. She hovered towards the metal switch and pulled it down. It stuck for a bit but the rusted metal screeched as it was pulled down. Then the lights dimmed down a bit as a loud boom echoed throughout the mansion.

---

L.E. and Xóchitl were outside, being bored of their assigned guard duty. The duo sat on the porch, waiting for Jenn and Hali to return with the mortals. They were talking to each other, well L.E. was more so than Xóchitl. She made low and long grunts and a few nasty growls to whatever L.E. said.

"We just have to wait," L.E. spoke.

A soft growl came from the woodland creature's throat.

"I know you're hungry, I'm a bit famished myself."

She made a hissing sound this time.

"Look Jenn will have a fit if we did that. Besides I want to learn a few things before we-"

They conversation came to a sudden end as a loud roar boomed throughout the house. And a loud cheering followed soon after. L.E. and Xóchitl looked at each other and then finally decide to rush into the haunted mansion. They went into the room that held the portal. To their surprise it was working without shorting out.

"It works!!" Cora shouted in glee, almost at the edge of dancing in midair. "I can't believe it the portal works!!"

Before anyone else could cheer with her a cold breeze broke the happy atmosphere of the room. Hali, the Wandering Ghost, materialized in front of her friends. She looked frightened and worn, odd for a ghost.

"THE SHADOW!! IT HAS HER!! Jenn's in trouble in the Dark Forest," her white nose voice thundered through the area.

Without hesitation, the monster group rushed out of their home, Hali leading them.

---

They were at a steady walking pace now, well more like Jenn was; Hail was merely drifting near her. The duo have been searching the nearby woods hoping to find the kidnapped mortals, but with no luck. They both decide to head back to the mansion and tell the others of what Jenn did. And of what she plans to do next.

Hali floated a bit behind the zombie girl, just gazing her back. The wandering ghost was a bit envious of her undead friend, how she's still, somewhat, alive. Then Jenn pulled her long curly hair over her shoulders, exposing her shoulder blades. That is when Hali remembered the scar, how odd for a bite of a zombie to be on the back, between the shoulder blades. Zombie bites are more common on the limbs, side of the body, and neck.  It only meant that Jenn was down when a zombie got her.

"Jenn," Hali whispered. "How did you get you're scar?"

Jenn froze in place and pushed her hair back to hide it. "I don't want to talk about it."

"I know I only asked a few times, I'm only concern for you. You never talk about it."

"She has a good reason not to."

They both halted in place, fearing and knowing who possessed that voice. The Shadow had answered for Jenn. The undead duo turned around to see they were right and feared it.

"Ladies, who wants to go first? I really don't care, I'll with the one that has an actual body"

The girls gasped as The Shadow got closer to them. A giant smoke arm strike like a cobra at Jenn's undead body. the smoke monster tightened his grip on her, when she struggled to get free.

"Get help-" Jenn gasped for air, as The Shadow squeezed her tight. Luckily for the zombie, she didn't air to live but speak.

"Now, we don't want the little undead girl to scream, now do we?"

The Shadow gazed down, with bright blood eyes at Hali. It was about to strike down on the ghost but The Shadow was too slow to attack her. For once, in a long time, Hali was grateful for her abilities as a ghost. The phantom girl disappeared into the woods and fled to get help. Leaving only the monster and a good friend.

"Where were we last time? Oh I know, you sent that unwanted horde to my players. If you're going to add more players to my game, then it's only fair if I do too. don't you agree?"

Jenn couldn't answer, she was still speechless; The Shadow's had started to crush her ribcage. She gazed down as she saw three small forms materialize near The Shadow. then the forms bolted into the woods, vanished from sight.

"Now my dear little undead maggot, tell me do you still fear mere bugs or something far worse?"

Only blood tears responded to the smoke monster's question for Jenn. She heard the sounds of her own bones being crushed, and feeling her cold blood pouring between The Shadow's fingers.
Sorry if this feels rushed, again. But looks like Jenn is danger and with The Shadow, OH MY!!! But why would a zombie being that is unable feel pain and reattach her body herself be so fearful.

We get to see a bit of her history of how she is turned into a zombie. Between the shoulder blades, that is such a weird place for a bite wound. How would a zombie even bite there, when a limb would be a better choice?

Also what are L.E. and Xóchitl up too? They are still thinking over dinner. If you haven’t yet read Hanna’s ref sheet you will know that they work together to eat food.
